The SGRA

The Spring Grove Residents' Association (SGRA) is a non-political organisation founded in the 1970s. Its members are the 660 or so households within the boundaries formed by Portland Road, Springfield Road, Lingfield Avenue, Grove Lane and Villiers Road but also including Geneva, Horace and Herbert Roads, Grove Close and Nicholson Mews. The SGRA has a committee to co-ordinate its activities. The committee is elected annually at its AGM which is open to all residents. The aim of the SGRA is to preserve and improve local amenities. It does this by:

• maintaining contact with local councillors and officers of RBK, our MP, the local Safer Neighbourhood Police Team, other local residents’ associations and with the University;
• organising or supporting community events;
• providing information to the community on local activities, issues and developments through its newsletter “Springboard”, which is delivered to every household in the area, the noticeboard, an email mailing list and its website www.springgrovekingston.co.uk; and
• raising and pursuing the views and concerns expressed by the community.

As the community is diverse, there are often different views about what constitutes the preservation and improvement of its local amenities. It is often the case that there is not a unanimous view about a particular issue either in the wider community or amongst committee members.

The committee will therefore always do its best to provide full and impartial information to its members. If the SGRA is approached to establish community views about an issue, the committee will do its best to gain and feed back all views which it receives. Where time permits the SGRA may be able to arrange local consultation on important matters, but will remain impartial in both the information it gives out and the feed back it provides.
